Stage 2 Fundraising

On the 7th August 2009 we launched the fundraising part of all this. We have the blessing? of the State and Federal Governments, the local Council, and both the RSL and the Vietnam Veterans Association, State and Federal bodies.

To date we have raised enough money ourselves to build a replica Luscombe Bowl, that area in Nui Dat, Vietnam, where the entertainers of the period came up to entertain the troops. Here we have used it an interpretive centre. The forecourt has been laid with engraved pavers that are still for sale, (see the sponsorship page). We have a Memorial Cairn set in this area as well to honour our fallen.

The Victorian State Government has given us $1.2m with which we are building the wall of DigiGlass. We have gone away from stainless steel and granite, because this Australian made product allows us to tell the story of Vietnam in pictures and still have the names of all who served, over the top. The effect is to see the story from a distance and the names when you are close. Our original idea was to have a hole for a Remembrance Poppy next to each name, that had to be altered and the holes are now in the footing and gives the effect of a field of Poppies under each panel. The Federal Government came onboard with $150,000 to do the lighting of the wall.

We have secured an M2A2 Howitzer, an Iroquois helicopter (Huey), and a Centurion Tank as artefacts to be spread over the length of the Walk. All these were of that era in Australia’s Military History.
